First Kidding of 2014
I witnessed my own goat kidding for the very first time! I've had many goats kid on my farm, but never been able to catch it. I got part of it on video, until I started helping dry baby goats off, as it's SO cold! I was thankful for the company and help from my pal, Meredith! As cold as it's been in Maine, I'm SO thankful she had them during the day and not the middle of the night! The baby in the back is a buck and the one in the front is a doe. They are from one of my bucks that passed away this winter and they are beautiful, so I may just keep them :)

Daddy and Emma are going out for one last check on Stella (pregnant goat) for the night! We've had her in a stall with a heat lamp for the last few nights, in case she has babies in this cold.
We fired up the incubator yesterday and are waiting for it to be the right temp before we fill it with eggs. We should have chicks in a month!

Daphne (Mini Lop Bunny) had her babies around 5 yesterday evening. I checked on her one last time last night and then left her so she could do her thing. I went in to feed and water her this morning and I saw 1 baby outside of the nest. I'm not sure if there are more inside the nest she made, but I don't dare paw around in there yet. I think I'll wait a week or 2. I'll post pics as soon as I see them :)
It's supposed to be sunny and almost 50 degrees today...enjoy the weather! I know we will be!

Happy Valentine's Day Farm Friends! We got a wicked snow storm yesterday into this morning and another one on the way Saturday night into Sunday (another 8-12")...I'm pretty sure we need it ;) We just got a phone call from Bumpa that our lowline angus bull calf was born this morning! What should we name him? Valentino, perhaps?

Well Folks, 6 more weeks of winter it is! We won't let that get us down...our chickens have started giving us 1 egg a day (doesn't sound very exciting to some, but we haven't had 1 egg a day all winter)! We're planning out our gardens and what we'll be planting this year (hoping to have veggies and flowers coming out of our ears)! AND we may have 1 bred goat, possibly due March :)
